The Sunderland striker is currently playing for the Middle East club Al Ain on a loan deal till the end of the season. However, it is thought that he would be making his move permanent to the Middle East club after it was revealed that Al Ain are in talks with Sunderland on a transfer fee.

He has been likened to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the past.

The 27-year-old star coupled with a number of other high profile players like the Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien have been absent for the national team for quite a while now. As a result, the Ghana National team has not been a major force on the African football as they used to be only a few years ago. However, they will be getting the services of Asamoah Gyan, who came to the prominence of the world in the 2006 World Cup, sooner rather than later according to the 27-year-old.

“There is no problem. I have been misquoted about my break from the national team. I had to take a break so I can psyche myself well. My confidence in the national team had gone low and I hope to return with bigger confidence. The decision to return is now left to me. Very, very soon, I will make that announcement. In my letter, I stated that my action was indefinite, so it can be any time. I will communicate that soon,” said Gyan in a recent interview. The officials from Al Ain have confirmed that they are 95% sure that they will be able to make his move to the Middle East permanent.

Since then, Gyan has not been part of the Ghana National team. However, Kwesi Appiah arrived at the new Ghana coach only last month and has said that he wants Gyan to be available for selection. As a result, Appiah has been on a visit to the UAE in order to hold talks with Gyan.

Following the talks, Appiah has said that he felt extremely confident that he will be able to have Gyan back in the team in the near future. Ghana will be one of the teams looking to win the 2013 African cup of nations.

The qualifiers for the tournament will begin shortly, while the qualifiers for the World Cup will also take place in the month of May. As a result, Appiah is looking to get all the best players possible in the team. Gyan has been playing for UAE club Al Ain since last summer.

“I have to just psych myself up and go back strong to the team again. It will be very soon. I never the quit the national team. The national team made me more famous than any club side. I became famous when I played in the World Cup. I can’t just ignore the national team (as) they made me who I am today,” Gyan told Associated Press when asked about the possibility of returning to the national team. Gyan is currently the top scorer in the World Cup amongst African footballers with four goals to his credit.

According to the e-mail sent to the GFA, Gyan wrote that his family and his friends had fully supported the decision to retire from the international team, which was sent on Friday. He also narrated in detail how he had grown frustrated at the abuse he had received from the fans while on duty at the African Cup of Nations last month while playing for the Ghana National Football Team and cited it as one of the main reasons for his retirement.

Moreover, the statement from the GFA also stated that everything was one on its part to make the striker reconsider his decision to retire but to no avail. The striker, who has scored 28 goals in 59 appearances for The Black Stars, stated that the fan abuse that was targeted at him after the Ghanaians exited from the tournament was intolerable and he vowed that he would never play for the national team again.

Gyan became the number one public enemy in his country after he missed a penalty in the semi-final 1-0 loss at the hands of eventual champions Zambia and Gyan, who gave his heart out for the Ghana National Football Team for almost 9 years wants to concentrate on his club career from now on.
