Coach Avram Grant claims that it will be extremely difficult for the Black Stars to qualify for the tournament. This negative claim is unlikely to sit down well with the Ghana FA, who have seen the team perform well under the regime of Grant. The team qualified for the 2017 African Cup of Nations quite comfortably after finishing top of their group. Included in a group containing the likes of Mauritius, Mozambique, and Rwanda, Ghana finished the campaign unbeaten from the five games.

Even though they ended up as the runners up, Ghana are feeling confident of doing well in the upcoming World Cup qualification. “It’s a very tough group, Egypt have an impressive generation of players and there wouldn’t be an easy game in the group, it is our target to make out from the group, and I will do everything possible to qualify Ghana to the World Cup,” said the national team manager. The national team’s opening match in the World Cup qualification will be against Uganda in October before taking on the toughest rival Egypt a few weeks later.

Ghana national team coach Avram Grant claims that the team does not have enough strikers but there is a lot of options in the midfield.

The former Chelsea and West Ham manager has recently come under criticism for his failure to get a consistent set of results with the national team, which once seemed to be the strongest in African football. The presence of players like Michael Essien made Ghana a force to reckon with a decade ago. Now, the team does not have strength in depth in several areas of the pitch and it is most exposed in the attacking department.

Grant says that if the likes of Gyan and Warris are not available for the national team, then it seriously leaves them without any options to play up front. However, the team has no trouble in finding the required number of midfielders since there is large competition in this area of the pitch. Grant has been criticised for favouring overseas players more than the home-grown stars. It remains to be seen if the deficiency in attacking players forces the former Chelsea manager to look in the Ghanaian league for talent. Grant has little time to build a squad for the African cup of nations, which starts in 2017.

“The truth is that Ghana lacks strikers because there are many midfield players. When Warris and Gyan are not playing, we lack opportunities,” said the Ghanaian manager about his lack of options up front. Fans, though, will not be worried about the excuses put up by the manager. Instead, they will just focus on the results and it has not been good enough so far. The recent win over Mauritius, though, has helped Grant by some time before the start of the African Cup of Nations 2017 – one of the prestigious tournaments for African nations.

Avram Grant’s spell as the head coach of the Ghanaian national football team might be reaching it’s end on February 5 of 2017 which is the date when the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finalizes.

The 67 year old Israeli football manager took charge of Ghana on November 27 of 2014 and Grant has recently stated that he is thinking about making a return to coaching clubs as he is missing the intensity and various things that come with coaching clubs.

“The competitiveness and creativity in training every day of the week is different. There is no doubt that I miss it.

My contract ends after the African Cup of Nations Championships in Gabon early next year. Next year, at the end of my contract, it is possible I will coach a team in England.” Avram Grant told a radio station.

Grant is a manager that has managed to reach the finals of big competitions but has not been able to push through and seal a significantly important piece of silverware. One of the former clubs of Avram Grant is Chelsea and he was able to push the Premier League title to the finals of the Champions League but ultimately lost in a penalty session.
The Israeli manager also managed to guide Ghana to the finals of the 2015 Nations Cup.

If Avram Grant does indeed decide to make a return to coaching clubs, he wants to do it on a high note and it would be by winning the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and this is a title that the Ghanaian national football team has not won since 1982.

Ghana came close on winning the previous edition of the Nations Cup as they reached the finals but ultimately lost against Ivory Coast in an intense penalty session.

This decision seems to have been partly made because the coach feels that he has not been given enough respect during his time at the national team. Grant came to the role in 2014 after Ghana had just been knocked out of the World Cup in embarrassing fashion. However, he performed a remarkable U-turn by getting the national team to the final of the previous Africa Cup of Nations.

Even though Ghana were unable to win the final, their achievements have improved the standing of Grant as a manager. Over the years, the Israeli has enjoyed success but has frequently been looked down upon as a poor manager.

A few months ago, Grant claimed that he is extremely happy with the work done well Ghana but he was starting to look elsewhere because he was not appreciated properly.Federation president Kwesi Nyantakyi admitted that the former Chelsea boss could end up leaving national team after the next Africa Cup of Nations. If he does, Ghana will not stand in his way of getting a new challenge under his belt.

“If he (Avram) decides not to continue, nobody can force him.It could be his decision and we must respect that so if he decides to leave we won’t stop him,” said Nyantakyi. Grant was an unknown to the football world when he suddenly became the replacement for Jose Mourinho in 2007. In his first and only season with Chelsea, he led the club to the Champions League and FA Cup finals. The club, though, finished as runners-up in both competitions and including the league title race.

The former Chelsea manager took over as the national team boss of the African nation after the World Cup 2014, which had just ended as a major disaster. Grant has done reasonably well at his previous clubs like Chelsea, Portsmouth, and West Ham. However, the 61-year-old feels that he has never received proper credit for the work.

Former bossKwesi Appiah is credited with finding players like Christian Atsu, Baba Rahman, Jordan Ayew, and several others. Grant, meanwhile, has found only three players for the national team in the last two years.Kwesi Appiah and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh are some of the names to have made their debut under Grant.

The recent African nations cup qualifier against Mauritius witnessedAmartey being utilised in a right back position instead of his preferred centre back position. However, many were left impressed with the wayAmartey adapted to this new way of playing.

Ghana went on to win the match 7-1 and are very much expected to continue this winning run when they take on Rwanda in the game in September. Still just 20 years old,Amartey currently plays for Danish club FC Copenhagen. He made his international debut only in 2015 after being used in the Africa Cup of Nations 2015. One of the reasons that led to his international presence in a firm way was the Europa League match for Copenhagen against Torino. Grant says that the 20-year-old impressed straight away with his ability to play in a number of positions. Apart from being able to play as the centre back on a regular basis,Amartey is also good as a defensive midfielder or full-back.

“Daniel Amartey is of great quality, Ghanaians are so lucky to have such a player. It is not usual to see versatile youngsters like him especially in African football. He can play in central defense, as a right back and also as a defensive midfielder and he does so well in all those positions. I watched him against Torino in the Europa league and he scored as a defensive midfielder. He has also featured as centre back and as a right full back for his club,” said Grant.

Avram Grant praises Ghana Captain

Avram Grant has revealed that Ghana captainAsamoah Gyan is one of the greatest players he has worked with. The former Chelsea manager recently took over as the manager of Ghana after a dismal World Cup 2014.

His first task will be to get Ghana back to the glory days by doing well at the Africa Cup of Nations 2015. Ghana have certainly began their attempts to win this competition by beating Algeria in the second group match. Algeria were seen as one of favourites for the title after having been one of the strongest African teams in the last two years.

Gyan, though, scored a late winner to give the first three points for his national team. This victory was extremely important given that their first group match ended in a defeat against Senegal. Another defeat would have seen the team knocked out even before the tournament entered into the knockout stages. As it is, there will be going into the final match against South Africa with an opportunity to claim the final qualification spot. There is even a possibility that the team can win the group if other results go their way. Despite managing several great players like Michael Ballack, Lampard, and Drogba during his career,Grant says that Gyan is the best so far.

“I have coached some of the great players – and he’s one of the greatest.Asamoah Gyan was not fit – he didn’t train like he needed to – but he’s Asamoah Gyan.First – he always scores when you need him, and he’s good for the spirit of the team; he’s a very good captain,” said Grant. “We always believe in him – any time he’s in the game we have the confidence to play,” said winger Atsu, who is playing for Everton on loan from Chelsea.
