ASANTE KOTOKO SECURE FIRST LEAGUE WIN

Ghana top flight giants Asante Kotoko have recorded their first win of the new league season. Asante Kotoko had to wait for the matchday five clash with Legon Cities to secure their maiden three points of the new Ghana Premier League season. The game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night saw Asante Kotoko beat Legon Cities 1-0 at home. The Porcupine Warriors got the victory courtesy the strike from Osman Ibrahim on eleven minutes. Legon Cities subbed on Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan in the second half of the game, but the former Sunderland hitman was unable to orchestrate the equaliser that would have given his team a point at least.

The win was able to catapult Maxwell Konadu’s men to fourth spot on the Ghana Premier League table with five points from their three games. They are three points off league leaders Karela at the top of the table though they have played one game less than the summit recipients. For Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan and Legon Cities, the slim loss means that they are still waiting for their first win of the season in the Ghana Premier League this term after five games.

ASANTE KOTOKO CHAIRMAN WANTS POGBA

Paul Pogba could be an Asante Kotoko S.C. player if the club’s Chairman dream of signing him for the club comes to reality.
It is reported in the media that Manchester United is willing to sell Paul Pogba following his years of inconsistency for the club since his arrival from Juventus in the then world-record fee of £89m. Paul Pogba, who has received heavy criticism, especially from Man United legends, played poorly against Arsenal last weekend in the English premier league and caused the penalty that contributed to Man United defeat against Arsenal, thus, giving Arsenal their first win in Old Trafford in 14 years.

It has also been reported that Man United has reduced Paul Pogba’s asking price to £53m, and Wontumi, the club chairman, is ready to buy him for the Asante Kotoko football club of Ghana.
Wontumi stated that signing Pogba for Asante Kotoko will bring recognition and the world’s attention to the club and Ghana in general. He added the likely gains he could make from the agreement as a businessman. Wontumi added that he has told his team to go on to trigger the release clause of the French star, especially as he thinks the player’s valuation is dropping gradually. He strongly feels he can land the star player for around 50 million pounds, proving to the world that there is a club in Ghana that can attract Manchester United’s best. GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE ON BREAK

The local Black stars are set to engage in one week residential camp ahead of the qualifiers for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

Ghana are set to face Burkina Faso in the qualifier for the local based championship. The selected players from the league would take the break to prepare for the qualifier while the MTN FA Cup last eight games slated for this weekend would be played.

The short break means the GPL would resume on August 26th where games would be played through August 30th. Another break is planned in the following month so the Black stars Team B can prepare for the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament.

The arrangement was made to suit all concerned stakeholders. A statement claimed all the outstanding games would be cleared within the one month break. The outstanding game between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak is slated for August 6th. Asante would be playing again three weeks after the team’s equipment officer died in an accident while two coaches got injured.

The Porcupine Warriors would play their game against the Oaks, according to the Professional League Board (PLB) of the Ghana FA. A medical review claimed the team should be ready by then. They have not played a league game since the accident. Twelve other players that were involved in the accident have returned to training.

Ashantigold and West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) would have met on July 30th before WAFA take on Kotoko on August 23.
