Andre Ayew takes responsibility for Ghana’s poor AFCON 2019

Ghana captain Andre Ayew has taken the full responsibility after the west African side bowed out of the African Cup of Nations at the round of 16 stage. The Black Stars had gone into the tournament with a view to ending their trophy drought which has extended for 32 years but they failed to do so after a penalty shoot-out defeat at the hands of Tunisia.

Speaking after the game, Ayew acknowledged that he is disappointed from the outcome of the match and takes the responsibility for the country’s exit. He added that the players can take heart from the good characteristics of their performances and come back stronger for the forthcoming round of internationals.

Speaking after the game, Ayew acknowledged that he is disappointed from the outcome of the match and takes the responsibility for the country’s exit. He added that the players can take heart from the good characteristics of their performances and come back stronger for the forthcoming round of internationals.

He said: “I am very sad and disappointed we could not get to the next stage but we need to take heart and be stronger. The entire team gave everything but it did not go our way. As a Ghanaian and as a leader, no player is to be held responsible for this: I take all the responsibilities and we are going to work hard and come back stronger. If we have been kicked out at this stage it means we had a bad tournament and since we couldn’t achieve the mission we came here for, I will say we failed.”

Against Tunisia, Ghana found themselves on the clutches of defeat after a 73rd-minute strike from Taha Yassine but they managed to get a reprieve after Rami Bedoui conceded an injury time own goal – just seconds after coming onto the field. As such, Kwesi Appiah’s team were able to keep their hopes alive of reaching the quarter-finals until they were beaten in the penalty shoot-out.

Meanwhile, Ayew is now expected to go on a vacation before deciding on the next challenge. The experienced attacker spent the previous campaign on loan with Fenerbahce, but the Turkish club have decided against signing him on a permanent deal. He is still expected to secure a new club, given he has no ambition of playing in the Championship with Swansea City.

I think we are going to do everything we can. But the Afcon is far; [from] now, there is time.

“I thank God I have had the opportunity to be at five Afcons so I know how difficult it is to even qualify from the group stage. [We’re going to take the games] one at a time. Now there are even 24 teams so it will be even harder than it was before [when it was 16 teams] so we have to prepare very well and keep the unity.”

“Ghana were regarded as one of the emerging nations in Africa shortly after their stunning performance”
at the 2010 World Cup where they nearly progressed to the semi-finals. Since then, however, they have suffered a slump when it comes to competing “in the major tournaments” and the failure to qualify for the previous World Cup was a disappointment.

Nonetheless, they have the opportunity to shed the concerns with a strong showing at the summer African of Cup of Nations where they are regarded as one of the favourites to clinch the title. Ghana recently qualified for the tournament with the top spot following a 1-0 win over Kenya. Caleb Ekuban scored the only goal in the 82nd minute of the game.

Ibrahim Tanko Dismisses Reports of Ghana’s Problem with Ayew Brothers

Ghana assistant manager Ibrahim Tanko has refuted suggestions that Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew have been problematic and a bad influence on the squad. Both players have been missing from the Ghana squad for the last 12 months and it is down to a poor disciplinary record. It is reported that both players have created a lot of problems for managerKwesi Appiah, as they are frequently found guilty of not adhering to the camp rules.Tanko has dismissed those reports and has claimed that both players should be back into the national team fold very soon.

Both players possess a lot of quality and it is extremely difficult for a small nation like Ghana, who are just trying to find their feet in world football, to cope without such players. Even though Ghana have been on a strong set of results over the last year, the team recently fell to a loss against Kenya in the African Cup of Nations qualifier. The setback raises concerns about Ghana’s ability to reach the finals. Ghana have also been struggling in terms of scoring goals with the team not managing more than 2.5 goals since beating Congo back in September 2017.

They always train well and cope with everything they are supposed to do so I’m unaware of the narratives outside there. They’re not troublesome. We want the best for the country so any player anywhere who can help us achieve the target is welcomed on board,” said Tanko.

David Moyes Feels He Was Right To Sell Andre Ayew Despite Swansea City Defeat

West Ham United manager David Moyes has stressed that it was the right decision to sell Andre Ayew back to Swansea City despite the forward starring for the Welsh outfit last weekend. The Ghana international returned to the Liberty Stadium after an unfruitful 18-month spell at the London Stadium, and he has since found his mojo.

Writing in his column on Evening Standard, Moyes feels it was the right choice to sanction Ayew’s sale in January, as the attacker was not fully focused on the job at hand with the Hammers. He said: “Andre Ayew did well enough for Swansea but don’t forget that he didn’t want to stay. At the time we weren’t that keen to lose anyone to our competitors but he made it 100 per cent clear he did not want to be at West Ham any longer.”

Despite Moyes’ comments, the Ghana international probably had the last laugh as he earned Swansea a penalty during the Hammers’ 4-1 thrashing in south Wales. The defeat sees the east London club just three points adrift of safety, and the upcoming home games against Burnley and Southampton could be critical towards their aim of beating the drop.

The Hammers’ faithful have also shown unrest over the club’s lacklustre showing in the defence, but not much could be done at this stage of the campaign, considering Winston Reid has been ruled out for the rest of the season whilst they took the chance of selling Jose Fonte to Chinese club Dalian Yifang, with the Portuguese wanting to improve his World Cup hopes.

Moyes needs to inspire the Hammers with just nine games left in the Premier League season or else he could face the prospect of leading Sunderland and West Ham United to relegations in successive top-flight campaigns, something which won’t do well for the rest of his managerial career.
