Ghana Coach Calls for Trust in Local Managers

published by content on Thu, 09/26/2019 - 16:13

Ghana manager Kwesi Appiah says that the nation should start keeping more faith in local coaches were other than sacking them at the earliest opportunity. It is quite remarkable that Kwesi Appiah is the only manager to have been in charge of the black stars in the last 17 years. However, there have been a lot of calls for his sacking due to Ghana’s poor performance at the Africa Cup of Nations that recently concluded in Egypt. However,Appiah is sad to see the job head out to another foreigner, who is more likely to be his replacement.

The Black Stars brought inAppiah for a second spell in 2017 after the departure of Avram Grant. His first spell started in 2012 and continued until 2014.Appiah has recalled the sad situation in which a foreigner comes into the national team role everyone at two years and then tries to revive the nation’s fortune. The national team has been able to achieve limited success despite possessing a large number of high quality players due to these frequent changes, according to the manager. Even though he has been in charge of the team since 2017, Ghana have been unable to make much of an impact in the second spell.

Appiah Expects World Cup Surprise from Nigeria and Senegal

published by content on Mon, 08/13/2018 - 12:35

Ghana coachKwesi Appiah claims that Senegal and Nigeria have the potential to be a surprise package at the World Cup. Unlike in the last few editions of the World Cup, African teams are not the strongest this year’s tournament. This is due to a mixed run of form for teams like Nigeria. Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco are the other representatives from this continent. The group stages have produced a mixed draw for the African teams; Senegal are in a group containing Japan, Colombia, and Poland. Meanwhile, Nigeria are up against the likes of Iceland and Argentina in the group matches.

A major absentee from the World Cup is Ghana, who have been a steady force when it comes to major international competitions throughout the world. However, there has been an alarming dip in the quality of the Ghanaian national team and this resulted in the team failed to qualify for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. If Ghana had reached the tournament, they would have created a record of reaching the World Cup in succession as they were a strong presence at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Back then,Kwesi Appiah became the first local coach to help the national team reach the finals of the competition.
