Speaking to Onda Madrid, Partey confirmed that discussions are underway over a possible contract renewal and he is optimistic of a quick breakthrough. He added that he is content at the Madrid giants at the moment and won’t consider a move elsewhere unless the club show him the exit door in the future.
He told: “My agent is talking to [Atletico Madrid. Sometimes we know that we don't always have what we want and I hope everything goes well.I think I am proud for having attracted the attention of other teams and this motivates me because it makes me feel that I am doing things well and improving things. There are things that you always think since childhood, but when you grow up things can change and you don't know what can happen, but my desire is to stay here until the team don't want me anymore.”
Partey recently featured for Atleti during their 1-0 win over Liverpool in first leg of the Champions League round of 16. They managed to grab an early advantage in the fourth minute of the tie at the Wanda Metropolitano and thereafter, defended with utmost success as they restricted the reigning European champions to zero shots on target.
Still, the tie is far from over with an away leg at Anfield to follow and Atleti will need to produce another solid defensive display. Meanwhile, the La Liga outfit may want to grab themselves a crucial away goal which would mean that the Reds would need to score at least thrice to avoid their elimination from the elite competition.
