Lepowura Jawula Slams Appointment of Maxwell Konadu

Former Ghana FA chairman LepowuraJawula claims that the national team may have made a mistake in appointing Maxwell Konadu as the temporary Ghana national team boss.

After the departure of Avram Grant following a disappointing 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, the national team decided to take its time when it came to appointing his replacement. As a result,Konadu was brought in as a temporary solution for the national team. Since there were no matches for Ghana until June, it left the national team with enough opportunities to find a replacement.

Still,LepowuraJawula says that the temporary appointment itself may not be good for the national team.

He reckons that Ghana should have gone down the route of appointing some of the former players like Marcel Desailly or Ibrahim Tanko. He has no problem in lettingKonadu remain as the assistant manager. One of the reasons for this view is the supposed lack of experience of Konadu.

He is no stranger to this role after having previously been in charge on a similar basis only to step aside. This time around, he may want to keep the role considering that Konadu has never been given the right opportunity to show his credentials alone.

“Most of our former players have proved that they can do the job if giving the chance. The likes of Silas Tetteh, Ibrahim Tanko,MarcelDesailly, Samuel OseiKuffour, and Kwesi Appiah they have all proven it and of course if they get it,perhapsKonadu can assist any of them. Konadu is my former player and I don’t want to debate this but I think it might be too early for him,” said LepowuraJawula. Ghana’s next match is against Ethiopia in a Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June. This will be followed by three games in August.
