Kwesi Appiah Sacks Two Crucial Members of Technical Team

published by content on Sat, 10/19/2019 - 08:50

Ghana manager Kwesi Appiah has stunned the FA by requesting assistants and the technical team to be completely sacked. As a result, it is expected that the likes of Stephen Appiah and Ibrahim Tanko will lead the national team with immediate effect. Both have a great deal of experience when it comes to work with the national team, but the disappointing African Cup of Nations has led to a string of changes within the national team.Appiah has come under fire for the disappointing tournament that witnessed the team going out of the competition in the second round. This happens to be the worst record for the team in 13 years.

Rather than stepping down from the role,Appiah has decided to ensure that two of his assistants have left the role. The manager has not yet revealed the reasons for such a move. However, the national team has now just lost two members with incredible experience. Tanko has been the assistant coach at various levels, but his seniority seems to have been a threat for Appiah. As a coach, he has served for clubs in Japan and Germany. In terms of national team experience,Tanko once again leads the way after having been associated with the Cameroon team in the past.

Stephen Appiah, meanwhile, captained the national team for the first two appearances in the World Cup. He also enjoys legendary status with the national team. After having performed as the technical coordinator for the national team,Appiah departs with his head held high. Even though the exodus of the backroom staff has begun, it does not answer the reasons for Ghana’s collapse at the recent major tournament. Ghana’s next major match is against Burkina Faso in October. This will be a crucial qualifying game for the African Cup of Nations especially after the 1-0 defeat in the reverse leg.
