Jurgen Klopp branded Mohammed Kudus‘ goal for Ajax against Liverpool on Tuesday night as “incredible”, as the Ghana international equalised for his side against the Reds – amid summer interest from Tottenham and Everton. Liverpool came into the game desperate for three points – after losing to Napoli 4-1. They got off to the perfect start, Mo Salah opening the scoring. But a rare foray into the Liverpool half saw Kudus take a touch, and unleash a rocket.
JurgenKlopp told BT Sport, as per BBC Live's coverage that he was not sure it was their first attack, but Ajax didn’t have a lot. He then said that’s how it is in their situation, anything can happen, but it was an incredible strike from [Mohammed] Kudus. Kudus would have been a wonderful signing. Not just because he is showing he can score goals in the Champions League, but because he is still only 22. Powerful, quick, technically excellent – he is already vastly experienced.
With 106 appearances under his belt for Ajax and Nordsjaelland – and 16 caps for Ghana – he is impressing. But most of all, because he offers incredible versatility. Naturally a midfielder, he can play out wide or even as a striker. Had Tottenham or Everton moved in the summer, they might have been looking at a fee under £30million. As he continues to score on the biggest stage, that fee is only going to soar past that mark.
