Ghana international Jordan Ayew believes Swansea City have enough quality within their ranks in order to preserve their Premier League status for another season. The Welsh outfit are currently 17th in the league standings with 33 points and they have three more games left before the end of the campaign.
Ayew has unquestionably been the Swans’ leading player over the course of the season and his efforts were rewarded with the Player of the Year accolade in the End of Season Awards night on Wednesday. Speaking shortly after, Ayew was pleased with the appreciation from the club and he was optimistic that the club can beat the drop.
He said: “This season has not been easy. We are still struggling but we need to keep going. We are going to keep fighting and hopefully, we get to stay in the Premier League. I am sure we will stay because we deserve it. This award means a lot to me and I would like to thank the rest of the playing body. If it were for them, I would not win this trophy. The only thing I can do in return is to give my 100 percent and that is what I try to do on the pitch.”
Aside from the Player of the Year award, Ayew was also honoured with the Best Goal and Top Scorers awards but this could come to nothing, should the Swans suffer relegation. At present, the Welsh outfit are in the strongest position to survive when compared to Southampton and Stoke City and two of their last three fixtures are against the above-mentioned opponents at home.
Carlos Carvalhal has not managed to sustain the club’s form shown during the early phase of 2018 but the Portuguese will be hoping that the Swans can find some momentum in the next three games which remain crucial to extending their top-flight stay.
