Ghana emerged as one of the powerful teams in Africa a few years ago due to the presence of players like Michael Essien.
However, due to various reasons most of the star players like Essien and Kevin Prince Boetang have not been featuring at the international level in the last few years. This has subsequently led to the reduction in quality at the national level, while results have also not been good as well. In this situation, national team manager Kwesi Appiah has said that he will be looking to bring back several stars back into the national team.
Apart from Michael Essien and Kevin Prince Boetang, players like Jordan and Andre Ayew are also in exile from the national team duty. Most of the cases are self-imposed exiles, while players like Essien have been granted special permission after suffering numerous ligament injuries in recent seasons. This has even led to the Chelsea star losing his place at the Premier league club. As a result, he is currently playing on loan deal with Real Madrid till the end of the season. Ghana have failed to win major tournaments like the African cup of nations without these players.
Appiah has said that he will persuade them to return to national team duty in the hope of making it into the 2014 World Cup.
"They are two great players and every national coach would want to have them around. It is important that every good Ghanaian player comes on board to help the nation. It is unfortunate that they have written to us to say they want to step back. After they wrote to us, we wrote back and said we didn't accept their decision - we sill need them. We said we would give them time and we are still talking and we hope they will come back to help," said Appiah.
