GYAN WILL RETURN

published by isport on Sat, 05/12/2012 - 11:03

New Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has said that he is extremely positive that Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan will return to playing international football in the near future.

Asamoah Gyan announced that he was taking an indefinite break from international football after suffering the abuse of fans following his missed penalty in the African cup of nations.

Since then, Gyan has not been part of the Ghana National team. However, Kwesi Appiah arrived at the new Ghana coach only last month and has said that he wants Gyan to be available for selection. As a result, Appiah has been on a visit to the UAE in order to hold talks with Gyan.

Following the talks, Appiah has said that he felt extremely confident that he will be able to have Gyan back in the team in the near future. Ghana will be one of the teams looking to win the 2013 African cup of nations.

The qualifiers for the tournament will begin shortly, while the qualifiers for the World Cup will also take place in the month of May. As a result, Appiah is looking to get all the best players possible in the team. Gyan has been playing for UAE club Al Ain since last summer.

"I have to just psych myself up and go back strong to the team again. It will be very soon. I never the quit the national team. The national team made me more famous than any club side. I became famous when I played in the World Cup. I can't just ignore the national team (as) they made me who I am today," Gyan told Associated Press when asked about the possibility of returning to the national team. Gyan is currently the top scorer in the World Cup amongst African footballers with four goals to his credit.
