Ghana top flight giants Asante Kotoko have recorded their first win of the new league season. Asante Kotoko had to wait for the matchday five clash with Legon Cities to secure their maiden three points of the new Ghana Premier League season. The game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night saw Asante Kotoko beat Legon Cities 1-0 at home. The Porcupine Warriors got the victory courtesy the strike from Osman Ibrahim on eleven minutes. Legon Cities subbed on Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan in the second half of the game, but the former Sunderland hitman was unable to orchestrate the equaliser that would have given his team a point at least.
Legon Cities have drawn three and lost two of their five matches in the Ghana Premier League this season. The Asante Kotoko game was the first match for new Legon Cities manager Bashir Hayford, and he has a big job on his hands with his team just one point above the relegation zone despite playing two games more than the other candidates in the relegation positions.
Before the slender win over Legon Cities, Asante Kotoko had drawn their first two Ghana Premier League games this season. Asante Kotoko played out a 1-1 draw in their league opener at home to Eleven Wonder last month before repeating the same scoreline for the away game at Berekum Chelsea on matchday two.
