Annan supports newly-appointed Ghana coachCharles Akonnor

Anthony Annan came out in support of Ghana coach Charles Akonnor by saying that the tactician will not be able to succeed without proper support from behind the stage.Akonnor came in as the replacement forKwasi Appiah earlier this year.Appiah had been in charge of the team for more than 24 months, but there were a lot of controversies during his reign. Meanwhile,Akonnor has been hit by a problem immediately after starting his regime, as the coronavirus pandemic means that the 46-year-old has not been able to take charge of his first match even now.

Yet,Akonnor is being tasked with the difficult objective of being able to win the Africa Cup of Nations and end the trophy drought for Ghana. The tournament was initially expected to take place at the start of 2021, but it has been pushed to 2022.Annan has declared his availability to the national team but he says that doubters should not ask questions aboutAkonnor at this early stage. As a result of coaching from of the top clubs in Ghana,Akonnor has been able to gain a lot of experience in his managerial career. The Black Stars all the experience in order to end a trophy drought that has been stretching for several years.

“I don’t really know much about coach CK but I heard he coached some big clubs in Ghana.Moreover when I heard about his appointment, I knew Ghanaians saw some qualities in him.The authorities cannot appoint just anybody to handle the Black Stars so I think he deserves the post. We have to give him all the support he deserves to succeed with the Black Stars as he was a former player and knows the national team. Just like we supported Kwesi Appiah when he was appointed, we must do our best to support C K Akonnor as well,” said Annan.
