The Ghana football Association have confirmed that they will be retaining the services of the manager Kwesi Appiah despite the failure to land the 2013 African cup of nations.
Ghana came into the tournament looking to finally capitalise on the brilliant squad by winning this major tournament. However, they were second best throughout the tournament and they could only make it into the semifinals. They were ultimately beaten by the minnows Mali for the second year running, which has led to the pressure on the manager Kwesi Appiah. He was widely expected to receive the sack after failing to win this tournament.
However, the Football Association have confirmed that they retain their faith in the manager. Appiah was appointed as the national team manager of Ghana only in the summer.
Hence, he will be given time to build his team and it is likely that the 2015 African cup of nations will be his new target. Appiah will be looking to improve the squad by taking specialised courses, while he is also scheduled to visit the Premier league champions Manchester City as part of a training program. The Ghana FA have revealed that they will be working closer than before with Appiah in order to develop the team from the bottom up.
"We know of public disappointment due to the way in which we finished this tournament. But above all, we want to empower our own. It's vital that we have faith in building local capacity. We know it is going to be a journey, not a sprint. When you have your chances and don’t take it, that is where sometimes you see inexperience coming up. Our objective is to offer the needed support so he succeeds in this new appointment," said a top level source in a recent interview.
