Ghana have been in fine form since Avram Grant became the manager in 2014.
However, the national team has been involved in a number of draws over the last few games and this has not been good enough for the temperament of Grant. The former Chelsea boss claimed that his team were looking for a win but were disappointed to get only a 0-0 draw against Mozambique in the Africa cup of nations qualifiers. Even though Ghana remain in a strong position for qualification, a victory would have put them beyond the reach of teams like Mauritius and Rwanda.
The draw with Mozambique brought an end to the three match winning run for Ghana in the qualification campaign. They have now taken 10 points from their opening two matches. The next two matches are against their closest competitors – Mauritius and Rwanda. Grant says that he had to make some changes in the first-team due to injury. Even then, he was pleased with the number of chances his team created in the course of 90 minutes. The trouble came with poor finishing that led to a goalless draw. Even when being disappointed with this result, Grant praised the opposition by claiming that they had given a good contest.
“We created enough chances to win the match but we did not score and at the end of the day, we have 10 points. It depends on us to qualify. We played to win the game. We played almost like we did in Accra but we made some changes due to injuries to key players. The new players showed a good fight but we could not get the victory. The Mozambicans are a good team and they have a lot of potential. They showed good tactical discipline and they closed our key men down,” said Grant.
