The former Ghana goalkeeper Abubakari Damba has said that the Ghana National team manager Kwasi Appiah should be focusing on the players at hand rather than continue searching for new players for the national team.
Kwasi Appiah has been on the lookout for young and promising Ghana players for a while, and the former Ghana goalkeeper believes that this approach will be bad for the team at the 2013 African cup of nations. The major tournament is only about a month away and the Ghana National team, which was one of the best in Africa only a few years ago, is not amongst the favourites to win this tournament.
Damba has praised the work done by the manager so far in his role. He has managed to bring in a number of young players into the Ghana National team by giving them call ups for the friendlies and other important matches. However, Damba have suggested that it is about time Appiah decided on a team and focused on them in order to not only perform well at the 2013 African cup of nations, but also in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers as well. The presence of several high profile players like Michael Essien made Ghana an extremely strong team a few years ago, but they are a shadow of themselves right now.
“We don’t have time from now to the AFCON so i will advise Coach Kwasi Appiah to get his core team and stop the search hunt. Coach Kwasi Appiah since his appointment has done so well in unearthing talents for the black stars but we are critical times now and we need to get a team that we can always rely on now," said the former Ghana goalkeeper. The next match for Ghana will be against Cape Verde in a friendly match.
