Ghana manager Avram Grant says that he should receive a lot of credit for rebuilding the national team in a short span of time.
The former Chelsea manager took over as the national team boss of the African nation after the World Cup 2014, which had just ended as a major disaster. Grant has done reasonably well at his previous clubs like Chelsea, Portsmouth, and West Ham. However, the 61-year-old feels that he has never received proper credit for the work.
After being recently questioned about Ghana’s poor form, Grant stated that the Ghana fans should start looking at the progress made in the last two years before criticising him. Within just a month of arriving as the national team boss, Grant managed to take the national team to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. This turned out to be the first major tournament for the national team since their disastrous World Cup and they did reasonably well. Critics, though, have been pointing out the easy run of matches under Grant’s regime. Ghana have not played top opposition like Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco. These are teams that can truly test the best teams from Africa.
Grant has also been criticised for finding less number of new players for the national team."I received the (Black Stars) team in a bad state and redid it. We win most of the time, except the qualifiers in the last game when we missed a lot of key players," said the Israeli manager. Former bossKwesi Appiah is credited with finding players like Christian Atsu, Baba Rahman, Jordan Ayew, and several others. Grant, meanwhile, has found only three players for the national team in the last two years.Kwesi Appiah and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh are some of the names to have made their debut under Grant.
